Help connect Bridge of Allan

Many Slow Ways have several route options. Some will be better than others, or good for different reasons.

Our goal is for each Slow Way to have at least one route that is verified and surveyed. To be verified – and get its snail badge – a route needs at least three positive reviews.

Give a hike and help get a for every one of Bridge of Allan’s Slow Ways.

Very beautiful and easy to navigate, but not accessible and quite rough in places....

Lovely route through the woods on a closed road. Part of the National Cycle Network spur connecting Bridge of Allan with Doune. Paved the whole way....

Walk this route

Sorry, the majority of this route does not meet your criteria as it is on road or pavement throughout except the Northern section which is a void contender....

Martin66

Walk this route

The route continues along a mainly traffic free road although cars have access to houses and parking by the bollards....

JMiller

Walk this route

The Carse lanes route described by one reviewer is along very quiet country lanes, is a good cycling route and is less than 1km further. But it is all on roads (no pavements) and walkers might find it a bit tedious. Going via Dunblane is only 2km further (via the Darn Road, 3km if via Glen Road)....

Walk this route

I walked it late on Sunday morning in August and there was very little traffic on the road sections, but lots of pedestrians and cyclists. It has rather more of a hill than Dunbri one....

David Giles

Walk this route

It starts off along the edge of a golf course, then passes through parkland and enters woodland with views of the Allan Water. Some sections are quite rough underfoot (rocks and tree roots) and parts of the path turn into streams after heavy rain (and can become dangerously icy in winter). Passes a cave that is believed to have inspired Robert Louis Stevenson to write Treasure Island (RLS spent childhood summer holidays in Bridge of Allan)...

Walk this route

This is the quickest way from Stirling to Bridge of Allan, and I frequently walk it. It is also cycle friendly....

Walk this route

The route is not well pathed between Castle Vale and Forth Park - fine for an adventurous stroll (with boots if wet) but not the best point-to-point...

thebears

Walk this route

The B834 is not a walker friendly road - it is a 60mph road with no pavement and high hedges. An alternative route across the small lanes on the Carse is much better, and only requires a short stretch on the B834 - that's also the best way to cycle it. While a lot further, Bridge of Allan-Dunblane-Doune is a sensible alternative....

Glen Road alternative is longer but a consistent hard surface. Footpaths and woodland - no lights!...
